Building a Cloud content platform

Overview

Atrify is a cloud-based platform for product content. Used by more than 20,000 companies in over 50 countries, Atrify shares accurate and reliable content with their partners and consumers.

The European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC) represents the interests of the duty-free and travel retail industry in Europe.

Since 2017., ETRC and Atrify have been working together to develop a digital labeling solution. The suppliers had to provide product information to shoppers in a friendly format and many European languages.

The primary role of the DPG (Deutsche Pfandgesellschaft GmbH) is making sure that the packaging deposit system within the beverage industry runs as smoothly as possible. It was necessary to establish a central database to run under the German Packaging Act. Meanwhile, Atrify provides the “DPG System database” (DPG Stammdatenbank).

Since the current DPG System database is more than 10 years old, it was necessary to jump-start the production of a new system. This new system should optimize processes, get rid of technical debts as well as follow the ISO 27001 certificate.

Challenges

ETRC Project: creating a web-based platform for shoppers to access regulatory information on Travel retail products in 24 European languages on their smartphones

Atrify hired us to build a new system in an Agile software development manner. The task was to create a web-based application out of the current pilot version, including feedback on user tests from previous phases.

DPG Project: DPG System database for the collection and deposit clearing of compulsory-deposit one-way drinks packaging

Atrify entrusted us to build a new system in an Agile manner while keeping most of the functionalities of the previous system. No imposing changes nor adjustments to the existing (non-UI) interfaces were allowed, keeping absolutely all of the data.

Benefits

We took over the challenging project of transforming the old packaging deposit system for the DPG.

Out of a system burdened with technical debt and an outdated tech stack came a neat Spring Boot and Angular based application. It reduces the complexity and nuances of the old system while keeping the functionalities and all existing and historical data intact.

The new DPG system, for which we are finishing up its 11th release, will comply with ISO 27001 standard. It brings increased usability and simplicity of usage for the participants while optimizing and streamlining the DPG processes.

Client
